First Black Belts
The cheers have subsided and so did the emotions of that day. But for those who were present that May afternoon when Planet Infinity promoted their very first group of black belts after four long grueling, challenging and inspiring years, the impact will last a lifetime.
Parents, guests, instruc
tors, life coaches and family rose to applaud the accomplishments of eight young men and women, ages 9 to 17. They were heralded into the elite group of First Dan Black Belts in Tae Kwon Do and to the greater responsibilities that go with such honor. There stood these students, knowing that donning a black belt and wearing a special black belt dobok is not just for show -- it is to lead the way and exemplify what Planet Infinity gym believes their students to be: “Champions in the Game and Champions in LifeTM” – the More Than MedalsTM (MTM) way.
Now, you might be wondering, “Why is there special emphasis on this promotion?” The journey to achieving this stature in one’s Tae Kwon Do training is not a simple fete. First and foremost, it begins with the parents as they continually partner with Planet Infinity to challenge their sons and daughters to live by the MTM discipline -- a discipline that entails rigorous training on the mats and imprinting character principles through the Life CoachingTM classes. As the students learn and master the basics of Tae Kwon Do, their achievements are recognized by a changing of belt colors. The closer the students get to a black belt, the more they understand that getting a black belt is not the end of their journey but the beginning of becoming true martial artists. The highlight in a student's promotion to a black belt is the signing of a covenant reaffirming their commitment to the More Than MedalsTM way of life.
